About The Isle of Skye

If you have always wanted to explore the Isle of Skye, this 9 night holiday is the tour for you. The semi-flexible itinerary allows you to choose the balance between walking and sightseeing to meet your own aspirations. Combine this freedom with a couple of the Classic train journeys of Europe and you have a holiday to dream about.

Please Note: This tour starts and finishes in either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Typical itinerary:

Day 1: Travel from Glasgow or Edinburgh by train to Mallaig on the West Coast. Flexible times.

Day 2: Ferry across to Skye, taxi transfer to start your walk from Broadford to Torrin, 15 – 20km.

Day 3: Continue on round Loch Slapin to the Elgol area where you stay for a couple of nights, 17km.

Day 4: Day exploring the area or taking an optional boat trip to Loch Coruisk in the heart of the Cuillin Mountains or maybe over to one of the Small Isles for the day.

Day 5: This classic route from Elgol via Camasunary then through Glen Sligachan, (18km). 2 nights at Sligachan.

Day 6: Day to explore the Isle of Raasay.

Day 7: Walk to Portree, 18km. 1st of 3 nights here

Days 8 & 9: Time for a couple of classic Skye days to explore the Storr one day and the Quiraing the other.

Day 10: Travel via the Skye Bridge then by another classic train journey to Inverness and so to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

When to go:

The best time to go is just about anytime. Each season has its own special feeling.

March–April: Late snows on the high hills and the clear winter air makes for sparklingly clear landscapes and photos.

May-June: Spring flowers and the first flush of luminous green as the trees burst forth.

July–August: Summer days, birds galore, the start of the heather colours on the hills.

September–October: Autumn tints increasingly form the colour palette, the haunting sounds of deer rutting, and the autumn mists adding to the mystery of the hills.
