Hill Talk December 2007 - C~N~Do Scotland Newsletter
Hi Folks
2008 Programme
Welcome to our 2008 brochure(s). As you will see we have an exciting programme lined up for 2008. Your perennial favourites are still there plus there are a few new trips as well. Amongst them are trips like 'Small Isles Explorer', 'Cairngorm Peaks and Passes', and 'Shetland Isles' to name but three. Incidentally if you book the latter immediately after 'Orkney Isles' we'll give you a free hostel bed-night in Orkney in between.
Once again we have full holiday information available on our website, including the likely day to day programme for each of the holidays.
Early Bird Discount
Early booking is very desirable both for you and for us. Our group sizes are small so it is only by booking in advance that you can be certain of getting a space. Accommodation is often in short supply so again early booking avoids you having to stay in alternative accommodation away from our group. As an additional incentive, we are offering a 5% discount on all bookings for trips in 2008, priced over £250 and made more than 12 weeks before the departure date. To take advantage of this offer it is essential that you quote the promotional code Early Bird 08 on your booking form as the discount will not be applied automatically.
Carbon Conservation
In January 2007, CNDo Scotland and the NTS launched a Carbon Conservation scheme to help the restoration of peat bogs on Arran, now the first phase of restoration work has been completed. Peat bogs are a major store of carbon, which, if allowed to degrade, will release their carbon into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. Scotland has arguably the most significant peat bog carbon store in the world. In August work commenced on the first project at NTS property Goatfell, Arran, with volunteers damming and blocking drains on the damaged upland peat bog in Coire a' Bhradhain. For full details and how to donate see our carbon conservation section.
Winter Skills
With winter not far round the corner, if you are thinking of taking to the hills this winter, now is the time to start thinking about Winter Skills. We are running both winter skills day courses based from Stirling, and winter skills weekend courses based in the Northern Cairngorms, this year. These courses are ideal if you have experience of summer hill walking and are now looking to take your first steps in winter. Details are in our downloadable Skills for the Hills brochure. The perfect combination of course would be to do the February Winter Skills weekend followed by the Classic Winter Mountains trip, making a week of winter magic.
Highland New Year
Talking of wintry things, our Highland New Year holiday always has some grand winter walking in Scotland. By popular demand, we are going to be based at the independent hostel at Callander, in the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. It's a friendly and welcoming place to return to after walking, and good for evening socialising and a Hogmanay ceilidh. If you haven't been before, why not join us this year? The price of £459 includes 4 days walking with a qualified mountain leader (there's a daily choice of walks available), 5 nights hostel accommodation, full board and transport from / back to Stirling. Spaces are filling fast so best not to leave it too long before booking.
Vouchers
Remember, with 'that particular time of year' coming up soon, when lots of head scratching goes on to think what suitable gifts could be, a C-N-Do Voucher could be the perfect solution. These can be either for a specific amount or, alternatively, for a specific product (garment, holiday, course or day).
Nordic Walking Gaining Popularity
If you can get to Stirling, a fun new activity in our range is Nordic Walking. This is a great low impact, all body activity which uses walking poles for balance and propulsion. Currently this is available only as a day course, but once there are enough of you, we'll probably run some longer trips.
Enjoy yourselves wherever you go.
