Trossachs Trail

Grade: Grade 2 - Grade 3 (Grade explanation)

About the Trossachs Trail

This journey through the Trossachs links Loch Tay with Loch Lomond, exploring hidden recesses of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, Scotland's first national park. The Trossachs Trail - Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park walking holiday is in four fascinating chunks; 45 miles of tantalising pure magic. Crossing the best known areas of national park gives a really good impression of its rich diversity. We walk routes which were much frequented in past times by tinkers, traders and drovers but now are quiet, wild places. It's just great!

Due to the nature of the accommodation used on this holiday, early booking (more than 8 weeks in advance) is strongly recommended.

Trossachs Trail - Brief Itinerary:

Day 1: After assembling in Stirling we head to Killin on the shores of Loch Tay, from where we start our journey along the Trossachs Trail - Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park walk. We follow the river Dochart back from Loch Tay, through Killin, to Ledharrie; a wee warm up before the journey to follow. (~8ml / 12km, 200m ascent). After our stroll we head to our accommodation.

Day 2: Continue today up over the Irishman’s Pass and down Kirkton Glen to Balquhidder where we should have time to look around Rob Roy McGregor’s burial site. We finish off by walking up to Balimore giving us a good start for tomorrow. (~8mls / 12km, 555m ascent).

Day 3: Today’s journey takes up and over into Glen Finglas and down to Brig o’Turk. (~10mls / 16km, 450m ascent) about half way on our Trossachs Trail - Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park walk.

Day 4: Onward and upward; round by Loch Achray, up Glean Riabhachan and over the high pass on the side of Ben Venue, to descend down to Loch Ard and the attractive village of Kinlochard. (~9mls / 14km, 600m ascent).

Day 5: Now for the final chunk of the journey of our Trossachs Trail - Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park walk. We weave a way through the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park to reach the ancient trading route round the side of Ben Lomond and taking us down to the shores of Loch Lomond at Rowardennan. (~10mls / 16km, 530m ascent). After a wee celebration locally we return to Stirling to arrive there before 18:00.
