Fisherfield Raid

Grade: Grade 5 (Grade explanation)

Our expedition to these wild mountains allows a chance to experience one of Scotland’s most dramatic wilderness areas. The aim is to explore the tops of "the big six" whilst camping in this mountain fastness.

Backpacking and wild camping are required.

NB. Due to the remote nature of the trip and lack of easy escape routes, participants should ensure that they have a high enough level of fitness to enable them to complete at least the linear parts of this holiday in full (days 1 and 4). The ability to carry 30-35lbs is essential. The hill walks on days 2 and 3 are long and demanding, over rough and mainly unpathed terrain, so again fitness for such walks is important for full enjoyment.

Fisherfield Raid Brief Itinerary:

Day 1: Meet at our office at 09:15 (or Stirling railway station at 09:00 if you let us know). Equipment distribution / check at C~N~Do office. After sorting out gear from the store, travel by mini-bus to Dundonnell area. Walk from Corrie Hallie to Shenavall and on to find a camping place in Gleann na Muice. (~8ml / 12km with ~400m ascent)

Day 2: Leave the tents and travel light to ascend Beinn a'Chlaidheimh, Sgurr Ban, Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair, Beinn Tarsuinn and anything else in that block we have time for. Return to the camping area. (~13ml / 22km with ~1700m ascent)

Day 3: Walk up Gleann na Muice to ascend A'Mhaighdean and Ruadh Stac Mor, returning possibly by Fuar Loch Mor and Glean na Muice Beag. (~11ml / 18km with ~1150m ascent).
