Wild West Fringe walking holiday New

Wild West Fringe walking holiday

Some of the best accessible wild routes across Torridon, Strathcarron, Glen Elg and Knoydart with unsurpassed West Coast scenery in uncompromising terrain. Every day takes one into surroundings which are diversely stunning and full of wildlife.

This six night trip reaches a climax as we cross Loch Hourn to savour the Rough Bounds of Knoydart with the last night at Inverie. Very lightweight backpacking is required for this last day’s walk. On the last morning our trip is rounded off with a sail out to Mallaig before returning to Stirling.

Ferry Journeys

There is always a slight possibility on trips involving ferries, that severe weather conditions or other reasons will prevent a scheduled sailing. However unlikely this may be on this trip, it may not be possible to keep to the planned timings. Any additional expenses incurred through changes in the ferry schedule will not be met by C-N-Do Scotland.

Wild West Fringe - Brief Itinerary:

Day 1: Depart Stirling around midday and travel via Inverness to Torridon where we spend the first 3 nights.

Day 2: We start our walks with the classic from Loch Torridon to upper Glen Torridon (near the Ling hut), that passes between the stunning mountains of Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe (~12km / 365m).

Day 3: Today's route may depend on the weather but in any case we will use one of the wild routes to link from Glen Torridon to Achnashellach. (15-16km / 300-650m). We’ll either be crossing an elevated pass surrounded by high mountains or following a lower route around the fringes.

Day 4: Today we have to pack up before heading off round by Loch Carron to Attadale. From there we follow the old drove route to Nonach Lodge near Killilan. (11-13km / 300m)). Our transport awaits to take us to Ratagan, our base for the next 2 nights on the shores of Loch Duich.

Day 5: A scenic drive over the Mam Ratagan, through Glenelg and up past the brochs in Gleann Beag to Balvraid adds to the interest of the day. Another wild route takes us over the Bealach Aoidhdailean, into Coire Chorsalain and down to Corran near Arnisdale. (15km / 500m).

Day 6: Pack up again and load up a few extra things into your rucksack so as to be self sufficient until tomorrow morning. We drive back round to Arnisdale to get the boat across to Barrisdale on the Knoydart Peninsula where we start walking. This area rates high on the list of Scotland’s most scenic spots and hopefully we will get great views of the northern corries of Ladhar Bheinn. Our route takes us over the Mam Barrisdale, down Gleann an Dubh-Lochain to the village of Inverie nestling in the bay (15km / 500m).

Day 7: After a leisurely breakfast we pack up our few things and head to the pier to catch the 11.00 boat to Mallaig where our support manager and transport await our arrival. We travel back to Stirling via Fort William and Glencoe to arrive around 17.00.
