Environmental Ethos - Summary

Our environmental ethos - leaving wee green footprints

Why? Well CNDo have always done it since we started in 1984. Long, long before it became important or fashionable, CNDo have made business decisions on ethical grounds. We have always been aware of and took account of our environmental and sustainable responsibilities. Our business has been built on these strong foundations and sustainability in practice continues to be our vision.

CNDo ethos has always espoused that sustainable tourism is predicated on the principles of natural capital. The value of nature and landscapes should underpin business ethics, as it should government and societal philosophy. If we look after nature and landscapes they will more than compensate us with healthy, active places in which to live, sound and sustaining work opportunities, inspiration and invigoration for body mind and spirit. This is not airy fairy rhetoric but a life-living philosophy and usually a life-changing one for those who allow the concept of natural values to take precedence.

We can help in the process through encouraging people to get out and enjoy nature, engage with the scenery and let the space and place allow your mind to think clearly.

Here at C-N-Do Scotland we are committed to working in a sustainable way. We are undertaking the following actions in order to achieve this:

  • We believe we comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and approved codes of practice
  • We continuously seek to improve our environmental and social performance
  • We try our hardest to reduce pollution, emissions and waste
  • We try our hardest to reduce the use of energy, water and other resources
  • We use local providers of goods and services where possible, and choose fair trade products where available
  • We raise awareness, encourage participation and train employees and other businesses in sustainable business practices
  • We seek to encourage suppliers and contractors in environmentally sustainable practices
  • We raise awareness, encourage participation and offer training to the general public in environmental sustainability and best outdoor practices
  • We encourage customers to use products and services in an environmentally sensitive way
  • We liaise with the local community and support them as we can
  • When operating in the outdoor we seek to promote the Leave No Trace ethic
  • We have joined and wholeheartedly support the Green Tourism Business Scheme as an indicator of our sustainable practices.

Please help us with our commitment – our Green Folder and other useful literature is in the wee library area in our office, and there are E-resources on the computer (desktop) there for your use.

We can all do our little bit - and it can be fun!
